Othello

Saturday evening la creme de la creme of Bucharest high society could be seen at the House of Opera. Humble me I went there because it was the first time seeing Othello. It was a great show. Franco Farina (Othello), Alberto Gazale (Jago), Garmen Gurban (Desdemona), Sorin Lupu (Cassio) those were the main names on the headboard. The show was interesting firstly because of the decor which was a bit unusual. The scene was decorated with LCD screens were you could see a radar and a timer, the chorus was dressed up at the beginning in suits that remind me of a SF movie and suggestive images were projected on big screens in the back of the scene (like the stormy sea, the moon, the rain, etc.). That was in the first act. Afterwards the decorations changed and also the actors suits with a much more verdian epoque style ones. Quite impressive was the last act were in the middle of the scene was built a round podium with stairs on top of which slept Desdemona. Guys with torches came in and lighten up fire all around this podium and Othello walked through it in his way to Desdemona.
If I wasn't that touched by Farina, the baritone Gazale made quite an impression on me: great voice, portrayed in an unique way Jago, and good looking :). Carmen Gurban who has also a beautiful voice and had great costumes for this part.
It worth it going there. There were 4 beautiful hours.
