Dragobete or the romanian Valentine's day

Romania is an orthodox country with orthodox traditions. Western and eastern cultural influences are mixed together in a picturesque atmosphere. For about 20 years we celebrate Valentine's Day on the 14Th of February along with the World but in a more commercial way, not as a catholic holiday. But we also have, only ten days later (24 February), our own celebration of love, that is called in folkloric tradition Dragobete. Now you know why I love so much this month.
A tradition inherited from Dacians. At its origins is a celebration of first days of spring, of nature's rebirth. Dragobete was a handsome man and a match maker. Romanians transformed this day in a celebration of love, Dragobete being the protector of those who meet this day. Their love will last all year long and maybe longer I'd say.
But you know what? Love is in the air those days and that's all that matters.
