One year in travel photos III

Next day we went to Deva (first documentary mentioned in 1269) and visited quite early in the morning the ruins of the old Dacian fortress up on the Citadel Hill. If going there, be careful to the horned adder. There were plenty of warning signs up the hill.

I loved Deva. Is a nice city, surrounded by mountains with clean fresh air and large streets. Here is the place where the Romanian National Gymnastics Team trains. They even have Nadia Comaneci's half-length portrait outside.

As we were in the proximity, we took another opportunity and visited one of the most beautiful Castles: The Hunyad Castle in Hunedoara. As we got there the sun was up n the sky and i had the courage first time this year to leave my winter coat in the car. I've only seen the castle in pictures or on TV long time ago and never thought I'll get to see it. So I've enjoyed that visit very much. This castle, built in 14th century, has both Gothic and Renaissance elements. It has an impressive drawbridge and defense towers. It is built on a rock. You can also visit the chapel or the room of Knights. There's the legend of Turk prisoners that dug a well of 30 meters deep in stone, hoping that they will be set free. But the owner of the castle at that moment died and his wife broke the promise he made to them and sentenced them to death. So they carved in the wall: "you have water, but no soul". There is also the place were prisoners were thrown to animals. Cruel history, beautiful architecture. The place is also available for special events like weddings, corporate events, medieval festivals etc.

We also visited Sarmizegetusa Regia Ulpia Traiana the former Dacian capital and religious center, a great site to visit by those that have a passion for history.

The last but not least place we went to was the city of Targu Jiu. Here we visited the park especially for Constantin Brancusi work of art displayed there: the Endless column, the Table of silence, the Kiss gate. The thing that amassed me the most was the huge number of crows that were in that park. Their noise was so annoying. We left the city after a good meal and hoping that the city hall will find a solution for the crows.

So ended a full 2 days trip in March that worth each of the 1000 km we made.
See ya soon with more travel photos of 2012.
